K vojakovi privolajú špecialistov, ktorí pri podrobnejších vyšetreniach zistia, že jeho smrť nastala v dôsledku reakcie na očkovanie proti čiernym kiahňam. Prípad sa dostane do sídla Svetovej zdravotníckej organizácie v Ženeve, pretože ide o chorobu, ktorá sa už vo svete nevyskytuje a ani sa proti nej neočkuje. Vzniká podozrenie, že vírus čiernych kiahní chcel ktosi použiť ako biologickú zbraň.
