Lewis B Puller Knihy

Lewis Burwell Puller Jr. bol synom generála Lewisa "Chesty" Pullera, najviac vyznamenaného mariňáka v histórii námornej pechoty. Nasledoval svojho otca a stal sa dôstojníkom námornej pechoty. Po absolvovaní College of William and Mary v roku 1967 bol Puller vyslaný do Vietnamu, kde bol 11. októbra 1968 vážne zranený mínou, ktorá mu v dôsledku explózie vzala obe nohy a väčšinu funkcie rúk. Výbuch miny roztrhal jeho telo na črepiny a on sa dni potácal na hranici smrti, pričom jeho váha klesla na 55 libier. Puller však prežil. Tí, ktorí ho poznali, hovoria, že to bolo predovšetkým vďaka jeho železnej vôli a tvrdohlavému odmietnutiu zomrieť. Kvôli svojim zraneniam bol Puller z námornej pechoty prepustený na zdravotnú neschopnosť. Počas svojej krátkej aktívnej vojenskej služby získal Puller Striebornú hviezdu, dve Purpurové srdcia, medailu Navy Commendation a Vietnamský kríž za statočnosť.
