Focusing on the reading comprehension levels of first-semester Higher Education students in Ecuador, this research utilizes Barret's Taxonomy and Ángel Lázaro's theories. The study reveals that students from the Faculty of Psychological Sciences struggle particularly with complex reading tasks, such as interpreting nuanced details and capturing supplementary ideas. The findings underscore the necessity of enhancing reading comprehension skills and integrating reading as a core component of the educational process throughout their professional development.
