The work emphasizes the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the Lisbon Agenda's outcomes by 2010, amidst a limited understanding of the regulatory foundations of this emerging competitive economic space.

The study explores the complex dynamics of institution building in European Union applicant countries, highlighting the varied impacts of institutional design dissemination. It analyzes how different approaches to governance and public management shape the political landscape in these nations, reflecting on the challenges and opportunities they face in aligning with EU standards. Through this examination, the paper provides insights into the intricate relationship between institutional development and European integration processes.

Die Arbeit untersucht Legitimationsprobleme im internationalen Raum und die Herausforderungen, die sich aus der Globalisierung für das legitime Regieren jenseits des Nationalstaats ergeben. Zunächst erfolgt eine empirische und normative Analyse des Legitimationsdefizits. Anschließend wird ein theoretisches Defizit identifiziert und ein Analyserahmen für Demokratisierungskonzepte entwickelt. Der Ansatz stützt sich auf das Modell der funktionalen Selbstregulierung, wobei die Kontexttauglichkeit als entscheidendes Kriterium hervorgehoben wird.

Die Studienarbeit analysiert die Chancen der Output-Legitimation der Europäischen Union und argumentiert, dass nur eine effiziente, gemeinwohlorientierte Politik diese Potenziale nutzen kann.
