800 Jahre Stadtrechtsurkunde Enns
In 1962, Heinz Fischer, the current Federal President, criticized Taras Borodajkewycz, a professor at the University of World Trade, for making anti-democratic and anti-Semitic statements in his lectures. This accusation was based on notes taken by student and future Finance Minister Ferdinand Lacina. Borodajkewycz took legal action, resulting in a first trial that Fischer lost and a second trial that he won. This conflict led to one of the largest anti-fascist demonstrations in Austria. Ernst Kirchweger, who protested against Borodajkewycz, was severely beaten by the far-right Günther Kümel outside the Hotel Sacher in Vienna and died days later. Fischer compiled a book primarily consisting of documents: writings by Borodajkewycz, lecture notes, the incriminating article, trial documents, parliamentary inquiries and statements, and press comments. After being out of print for a long time, the book is now available again, enriched with the final findings of the ministerial disciplinary commission for university professors, which explains why Borodajkewycz's teaching practices are considered misconduct.
