Radoslav Katičić bol významný chorvátsky lingvista a historik, ktorý sa venoval všeobecnej lingvistike, literárno-jazykovým štúdiám a jazykovej histórii. Jeho práce rozvíjali moderné lingvistické prístupy a skúmali kontinuitu chorvátskeho písomníctva od stredoveku po súčasnosť. Katičić tiež prispel k pochopeniu širšieho kultúrneho a jazykového dedičstva Chorvátov, vrátane ich identity v rámci Európy. Jeho rozsiahle syntetické práce a oddanosť štúdiu chorvátskej kultúry z neho robia kľúčovú postavu v chorvátskej slavistike.
