Gibsonova kniha vrcholí popisem vzniku, výcviku a první a zároveň nejslavnější bojové akce 617. bombardovací perutě. Byl jí proslulý nálet na německé přehrady Möhne a Eder, na základě kterého získala peruť přezdívku "Dambusters" (Ničitelé přehrad). Gay Gibson tento slavný útok vedl a byl za něj vyznamenán nejvyšším britským vyznamenáním za statečnost: "Victoria Cross". Předmluvu napsal Arthur Harris.
