A kohož by nezajímalo moře jehož ač jsme vzdáleni, cítíme účinek v každém dešti, větru, jež pokrývalo někdy i půdu naši, tvoří cíl poutí našich a jest živitelkou národů? Spisy slečny A. Giberneové těší se v Anglii a v četných překladech hojné obliby. V knize této podává výsledky nejbedlivějšího pozorování měnivých úkazů moře, líčí slohem poutavým zákony, jež ovládají větry a proudy mořské a nikdy neutuchující zápas souše s mořem. Ponořuje se se čtenářem do hlubin a předvádí mu divuplné útvary temného, studeného bezedna. Ukazuje krásy a hrůzy oceánu, od živoucích květů a svítivých ryb až k jeho nestvůrám a velikánům. V knize nalezne mladý i dospělý čtenář hojnost věcí nových a zajímavých. Autorka projevila veliký interes na vydání českém. „V německém vydání, píše nám, vynecháno leccos co jako vlastenka pro svou vlast zaujata jsem napsala. Češi budou snad méně nedůtkliví." Bohužel nemáme příčin k žárlivosti se světovládným AIbionem. Jen prostředně dostáváme dary moře, odvádějíce mu Labem povinný tribut pevniny. Jsme však součástkou celku, na jehož osud moře účinkuje nepřetržitě. Kniha připraví zajisté i čtenářstvu českému hojně radosti a poučení. B. B.
