Bekannt wurde der russische Physiologe und Mediziner Iwan Petrowitsch Pawlow durch seine behavioristischen Lerntheorien. Eher unbekannt ist jedoch die Tatsache, dass er 1904 den Nobelpreis für seine Arbeiten über die Verdauungsdrüsen erhielt. Im vorliegenden Band nun sind mehrere Vorlesungen Pawlows zu diesem Thema veröffentlicht. Sorgfältig bearbeiteter Nachdruck der Originalausgabe von 1898.
