V Návratech, odehrávajících se na dnes již uzavřené stockholmské psychiatrické klinice Beckomberga, autorka nahlíží do nitra pacientů a pacientek, pro které toto zařízení představovalo naději i peklo. Protagonistkami Umění padat jsou matka a dcera Bealeovy, kdysi známé osobnosti amerického showbyznysu.
