Kloster Seeon opened in 1993 as the Upper Bavarian Centre of Culture and Education, bringing the former abbey back into the public eye. The medieval historian Dr. Stephanie Haarländer sheds light on the early, fabled history of the monastery and traces its development up to the present day. The art historian Dr. Lothar Altmann reports extensively about the architectural and decorative history of the abbey and the church, provides a description of its location and layout, and elaborates on the architecture and furnishings of the Asam Church. An excursion is dedicated to the shrine of Our Lady at Frauenberg. A description of Benedictine life in Weltenburg today is made by Abbot Thomas M. Freihart OSB. Short biographies of the artists and craftsmen working in Weltenburg as well as extensive references to literature round off the richly illustrated volume.
