Daniel Garrison Brinton bol americký lekár a chirurg, ktorý slúžil v armáde Únie. Venoval sa etnológii, archeológii a americkým lingvistickým štúdiám. Brinton sa stal profesorom na Filadelfskej akadémii prírodných vied a neskôr na Pensylvánskej univerzite, kde prednášal až do svojej smrti. Jeho práca sa zameriavala na štúdium a pochopenie pôvodných obyvateľov Ameriky a ich kultúr.
