Unikátna kniha, ktorá nemá na svete obdoby. Technické popisy a zaujímavosti o takmer päťdesiatich lietadlách - čierna kniha leteckého priemyslu. Lietadlá, ktoré celkom zlyhali alebo boli zkonštruované nezmyselne. Stroje, ktoré boli príliš ťažké a mali slabý motor, takže sa nedokázali odlepiť od zeme. Iné síce vzlietli, ale už nedokázali pristáť. Northropov bombardér B-2 Stealth - jedna z najhorších amerických zbraní, a podobne. Přezdívka Bílá růže ze Stalingradu patřila ruské stíhací pilotce Lidiji Vladimirovně Litvjakové, která byla leteckým esem i podle mužských měřítek a vůbec nejlepší stíhačkou všech dob. Stala se vycházející hvězdou sovětského letectva a za jejích začátků se jí v bojích nad Stalingradem podařilo sestřelit pět německých strojů. Oproti rozšířené představě byla také vůbec první ženou, která německý letoun sestřelila. Nakonec dosáhla během šedesáti šesti bojových letů nejméně dvanácti ověřených vítězství. Kniha popisuje její osudy od narození ve Stalinově Rusku, přes smrt otce, který byl během čistek na konci třicátých let zatčen a poté zastřelen, její prvotní výcvik v aeroklubech, instruktorskou dráhu, až k detailním popisům účasti v bojích, zpočátku v ženském leteckém stíhacím pluku, posléze v ryze mužských stíhacích plucích. Osud Litvjakové byl zvláštní i po smrti: Při jedné akci zmizela a byla prohlášena za nezvěstnou, aby se poté vyrojily pověsti o její spolupráci s Němci. Až v roce 1979 byly objeveny její ostatky a bylo potvrzeno, že zahynula v bojové akci, a teprve v roce 1990 obdržela in memoriam titul Hrdiny Sovětského svazu, na který byla navržena už za války.

This book explores the history of US Marine Corps aviation during World War II, focusing on the top-scoring aces over Guadalcanal. Marine aviation began in 1915 as a self-contained expeditionary force, gradually evolving during the interwar period to support amphibious operations. The attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 marked a turning point, with Marine aviators quickly engaging the Japanese at Wake Island. In the South Pacific, Marine Corps aviators emerged as a formidable air force. By the summer of 1942, they played a crucial role in the Cactus Air Force, a unified Allied airpower effort, with Major General Roy Geiger leading the charge. Among the twelve fighter squadrons in this force, eight were from the Marine Corps. Joe Foss, commander of VMF-121, became a symbol of Marine aviation, leading his squadron to down 72 enemy aircraft, with Foss achieving 26 victories himself. Pappy Boyington, who joined the Marine Corps in 1935 and commanded VMF-214, also matched Foss's score by late 1943.
