Money for nothing ... and T.P. for free is a satirical novel about food discount and speculation with agricultural raw material. Under the surface, it is an ironic, funny analysis of some of the absurdities in the economy written by somebody who was part of the system for more than three decades. The story is told by a 20 Eurocent coin and a 1 Eurocent coin. They fell to the floor of a checkout cashier and are now stuck in an unseen location, covered with dust, and with no hope of being rescued. The two coins, Koin, Sr. and Koin, Jr. tell a story of takeovers becoming hostile, prices taking a dump, commodity speculation, the dominance of the financial industry, and the stagnation of the real economy.

»Doch er und wir, wir alle sind Verlorene« meldete der Senior-Münz depressionsgebremst über seine Elektronen. »Aus Metall wurde Papier, und aus Papier wurde Luft. O treue Münzen, die wir einst waren, durch Gold und durch Silber gedeckt, man hat uns an die Luft gesetzt und jetzt sitzen wir hier fest, fixiert unter einer Sockelleiste in einem Diskontladen.« Unverblümt und pointiert erzählt Schönthaler in seinem Wirtschaftskriminalroman aus der Sicht einer Centmünze von der sinkenden Bedeutung des Bargelds, dem Lebensmitteldiskont, der Spekulation mit Agrarrohstoffen, dem Ausufern der Finanzwirtschaft und den Folgen für die Lebensmittelhersteller und Konsumenten. »Geht‘s noch billiger« ist eine erfrischende Satire über einige der Absurditäten in der Wirtschaft, geschrieben von jemandem, der jahrzehntelang an der Spitze bekannter Markenartikelunternehmen gearbeitet hat.
