Súmračná krajina je v mnohom podobná tej našej, no dá sa do nej vstúpiť len v snoch. Žijú v nej bohabojní a mierumilovní ľudia, ktorí však z času na čas podľahnú márnomyseľnosti a hriechu. Nie je v nich teda núdza o roztrieštené lebky, potoky krvi, hnijúce mŕtvoly, či zlovoľných duchov, neľútostných obrov, zákerné obludy i dobrotivých strážnych anjelov. Rozprávková zbierka Súmrak dňa (Under the Sunset) vyšla po prvý raz v roku 1881. Niektoré z poviedok sa už predtým objavili v literárnom časopise pre dospievajúcu mládež The Boy's Own Paper, ale pre knižné vydanie boli čiastočne upravené a zjemnené. Slovenský preklad vychádza z pôvodných verzií, ktoré majú oveľa hororovejší charakter a niektorí viktoriánski literárni kritici ich dokonca označili za nevhodné pre deti. „Necenzurovaný“ text, ktorý je doslova prešpikovaný množstvom fantazijných a nonsensových prvkov, nám tak umožňuje vnímať autora najslávnejšieho „upírskeho“ románu aj ako spoluzakladateľa žánru fantasy.

Klasický román Brama Stokera dráždí k nejrůznějším adaptacím už přes sto dvacet let. Vábení neodolal ani vynikající francouzský kreslíř Georges Bess, kterého český čtenář zná z komiksu Bílý láma, k němuž psal scénář Alejandro Jodorowsky. The Lair of the White Worm (also known as The Garden of Evil) is a horror novel by Irish author Bram Stoker. It is partly based on the legend of the Lambton Worm. The book was published in 1911 by Rider and Son in the UK, the year before Stoker's death, with color illustrations by Pamela Colman Smith. In 1925, it was republished in a highly abridged and rewritten form. Over a hundred pages were removed, the rewritten book having only twenty-eight chapters instead of the original forty. The final eleven chapters were cut down to only five, leading some critics to complain that the ending was abrupt and inconsistent. This edition restores the full unabridged story with its original illustrations.
