Erasmus Rotterdamský

    Erasmus z Rotterdamu, prezývaný "knieža humanistov", bol holandský renesančný učenec, ktorý písal v čistej latinčine. Použitím humanistických metód pripravil nové latinské a grécke vydania Nového zákona, ktoré ovplyvnili reformáciu. Hoci kritizoval nedostatky Katolíckej cirkvi a volal po reformách, zachoval si odstup od Luthera a zastával umiernený prístup, odmietal extrémne názory a zdôrazňoval slobodnú vôľu. Jeho diela sa vyznačovali hlbokým rešpektom k tradičnej viere a zbožnosti.
