Rikšiar (1936) je klasické dielo modernej čínskej literatúry. Lao Še v ňom s láskou a súcitom opisuje neľahký život mladého a čestného dedinčana Sianga, ktorý ujde do Pekingu, aby sa tu stal rikšiarom. Napriek jeho dobrej vôli a usilovnej práci ho postupne ničí spoločnosť, v ktorej panujú len peniaze. Zamiluje sa do mladej krásnej dievčiny, ktorá z biedy začne pracovať ako prostitútka a stihne ju tragický osud.
