Lidská životní zkušenost je od nepaměti poznamenána zlem v jeho nejrůznějších podobách. Jak spojit tuto skutečnost s křesťanskou vírou v dobrého a všemohoucího Boha? To je i výchozí otázka, kterou si v této knize položili znalec Starého zákona s literárním vědcem a systematickým teologem K.-J. Kuschlem z teologické fakulty univerzity v Tübingen. Kniha má čtyři části: dvě se obracejí k tradici – jednak k tradici biblické, jednak k tradici teologických odpovědí na otázku zla (Augustin, Tomáš Akvinský, Kalvín a Leibniz). V třetí části je představena tvorba moderních spisovatelů, kteří se pokusili konfrontovat tradiční představu Boha se zkušeností nezaviněného a nespravedlivého utrpení (R. Schneider, E. Wiesel, W. Hildesheimer, N. Sachsová, H. Lange). Závěrečná část je věnována interpretacím moderních teologů (H. Jonas, J. Moltmann, G. Greshake).
Publikace přináší úplný text Deklarace a dvě studie autorů, kteří vysvětlují ideu a historii tohoto dokumentu, jenž se pokouší nalézt konzensus mezi náboženstvími v oblasti etiky - ta se má stát základním kamenem světového řádu. Představitelé jednotlivých náboženských skupin a společenství se podpisem textu přihlásili k myšlenkám tolerance a respektování lidských práv.

Druhé vydání reprezentativní ekumenicky pojaté antologie, která přináší zásadní studie předních křesťanských teologů i těch myslitelů, které křesťanství inspirovalo při promýšlení základních problémů lidské existence. Její texty ukazují, že dvacáté století patří k nejnapínavějším obdobím teologického bádání, ale také, jak se myšlení o Bohu vzrůstající měrou prosazuje v dnešním světě. Celek knihy se v bohatě členěném tematickém spektru soustřeďuje na otázky, jak lze dnes hovořit o Bohu, o Ježíši Kristu a o evangeliu. Jednotlivé oddíly jsou uspořádány tak, že se čtenář postupně seznamuje se základními tématy filosofickými a teologickými a poté s ústředními problémy náboženství, církví, ekumenismu i se vztahy víry a moderního myšlení. Z povahy textů je zřejmé, že jejich autorům nejde jen o teoretické uvažování, ale především o praktickou službu člověku, který hledá východiska z myšlenkového labyrintu moderní doby. Antologii uspořádal Prof. Dr. Karl-Josef Kuschel. Autory příspěvků jsou slavní teologové Rahner, Guardini, Teilhard de Chardin, Kasper, Ratzinger, Barth, Bultmann, Bonhoeffer, Gándhí, Welte aj.Prof. Dr. Karl-Josef Kuschel (nar. 1948) studoval germanistiku a teologii na univerzitách v Bochumi a Tübingen. Po Hansi Küngovi se stal ředitelem Institutu pro ekumenické bádání univerzity v Tübingen.
To mark the occasion of Hans Kung's sixty-fifth birthday, this volume was prepared by various writers, thinkers, and religious leaders to celebrate Kung's life and his theology.
