Roku 1990 se poprvé v naší literární historii objevil měsíčník věnovaný sci-fi, fantasy a hororu – Ikarie. Časopis, jehož vznik přecházelo mnohaleté úsilí celé řady našich více i méně známých spisovatelů a publicistů. V rámci sílícího československého sci-fi hnutí se zakládaly první kluby přátel sci-fi, pořádaly akce pro fany a první literární soutěže. Začaly se vydávat i mnohé samizdatové časopisy a sborníky.
