"This volume introduces readers to volume 5 of The Treasury of Precious Instructions, the first volume that treats the teachings of the Sakya school. The Sakya school's principal teaching is known as Lamdré or the Path With Its Result. According to traditional Sakya sources, Lamdré was first taught some 1200 years or so following the parinirvāṇa of the Buddha by the Mahāsiddha Virūpa to Kanha, the lesser of his two disciples. It was passed down as an oral tradition through a series of Indian siddhas and entered Tibet in the middle of the 11th century, and finally written down in 1141 CE by Sachen Kunga Nyingpo. While the details of that story are fairly well known and have been written upon quite a bit, much less is known by the general reader about the portrayal of the rise of Secret Mantra Vajrayāna and the origins of the Hevajra cycle of tantras according to the Sakya tradition"-- Provided by publisher

Creation and Completion represents some of the most profound teachings of Jamgon Kongtrul (1813-99), one of the true spiritual and literary giants of Tibetan history. Though brief, it offers a lifetime of advice for all who wish to engage in-and deepen-the practice of tantric Buddhist meditation. The original text, beautifully translated and introduced by Sarah Harding, is further brought to life by an in-depth commentary by the contemporary master Thrangu Rinpoche. Key Tibetan Buddhist fundamentals are quickly made clear, so that the reader may confidently enter into tantra's oft-misunderstood "creation" and "completion" stages. In the creation stage, practitioners visualize themselves in the form of buddhas and other enlightened beings in order to break down their ordinary concepts of themselves and the world around them. This meditation practice prepares the mind for engaging in the completion stage, where one has a direct encounter with the ultimate nature of mind and reality.
