Tej, čo prešla popri mne je výnimočný dvojjazyčný výber z diela Charlesa Baudelaira v preklade Ľubomíra Feldeka s pôsobivými ilustráciami od Kataríny Vavrovej. Výber chce sprítomniť jedného z najväčších francúzskych básnikov, významného predstaviteľa svetovej moderny. V roku 1857 Baudelaira hnali za jeho básne pred súd, lebo verejnosť poburovali, no v súčasnosti žasneme nad nespornou umeleckou hodnotou jeho poézie. Dnes si aj jeho Zdochlinu už vieme prečítať ako nádhernú ľúbostnú báseň, ktorá vôbec nie je taká cynická, ako vyzerá na prvý pohľad. Slávna zbierka veršov, vydaná po prvýkrát v roku 1857 vzbudila v čase svojho vzniku nesmierne pohoršenie meštiackej spoločnosti. V básňach je úplne obnažené srdce človeka, rozdeleného medzi hrôzou pre životom a extázou z jeho krásy, človeka, ktorý je nepriateľom každej všednosti, so záľubou vo výstrednej obraznosti.

Majiteľ ortuťových baní a veľkých viníc v Napa Valley Jeremiah Thurston sa rozhodne oženiť až v zrelom veku, no napriek tomu, ako sa ukáže, jeho rozhodnutie nie je veľmi uvážené. Mladučká krásavica Camille má väčší záujem o zábavu a pôžitky ako o rodinu, a tak opantaná vášnivou láskou k príťažlivému šľachticovi opustí manžela i maličkú dcérku Sabrinu, aby sa na dlhé roky stratila z ich života. Sabrina však zdedí otcovu povahu a aj po jeho smrti je rozhodnutá pokračovať v jeho diele. Vydá sa za otcovho veľkého rivala a privedie na svet syna, no manžel čoskoro zomrie pri vlakovom nešťastí a Sabrina musí v časoch hospodárskej krízy bojovať o prežitie. Po dlhých rokoch samoty sa zoznámí s francúzskym pestovateľom vína a neočakávane sa zrodí nová láska, ktorá jej vari pomôže prekonať všetky príkoria, čo jej osud ešte chystá. Len nádherný dom so sklenou kupolou, postavený Jeremiahom z lásky ku Camille, stojí nezmenený ako mlčiaci svedok dramatických životných zvratov thurstonovskej rodiny.

Keď začal publikovať svoje malé básne v próze v časopisoch a novinách, Baudelaire ich skromne označil za „bagately“, no plne si uvedomoval ich jedinečnosť. Tieto texty, ktoré sa snažia zachytiť zvláštnosť každodenného života jeho doby, predstavujú nič menej než novú literárnu formu. Rimbaud a Mallarmé si to veľmi rýchlo uvedomili – a mnohí ďalší po nich. Antologie Plameny v zrcadle sleduje jejich proměny od Baudelaira přes Rimbauda, Mallarméa a Prousta až k Jacobovi a Reverdymu. Mají být „klenotem“ a „líbezným šerosvitem života“, zároveň však dovedou s radioaktivní intenzitou vyjadřovat vnitřní či vnější životní zážitek či zachytit výmluvný střípek krvavě vážné životní epizody. V literatuře reprezentují v čiré podobě řád a tvar.

Baudelairovo básnické dílo mělo velký vliv na moderní, hlavně symbolistickou poezii. Jeho nejvýznačnější sbírky jsou Květy zla a Malé básně v próze. Předkládaný výběr básní uspořádal překladatel Gustav Francl a nese název po jedné z nejpůsobivějších básní.

Slavný a pro nejmladší české básníky po první světové válce objevitelský význam mající překlad plejády francouzských básníků od Ch. Baudelaira přes generaci „prokletých" až k vrcholům symbolismu. Doslov napsal Vítězslav Nezval, k vydání připravil, ediční poznámku a vysvětlivky sestavil dr. Miroslav Halík. Jedenácté vydání.

První svazek přináší čtyři překladatelská díla základního významu z prvního období básníkovy translační činnosti z let 1927–1931: výbor z Poea, úplný překlad tehdy známého básnického odkazu Rimbaudova a Mallarméova a část Baudelairových Květů zla. Překlady těchto čtyř básníků vznikaly z nespokojenosti s dosavadní podobou těchto básníků v češtině a z přání dát českému čtenáři odkaz průkopníků moderní poezie v moderním básnickém znění. Le Spleen de Paris, également connu sous le nom de Petits Poèmes en prose, est une collection de 51 courts poèmes en prose de Charles Baudelaire. La collection a été publiée à titre posthume en 1869 et est associée au mouvement littéraire moderniste. La Fanfarlo est une œuvre du poète français Charles Baudelaire, publiée pour la première fois en janvier 1847. La nouvelle décrit un récit fictionnalisé de la liaison de l'écrivain avec une danseuse, Jeanne Duval.
