Tej, čo prešla popri mne je výnimočný dvojjazyčný výber z diela Charlesa Baudelaira v preklade Ľubomíra Feldeka s pôsobivými ilustráciami od Kataríny Vavrovej. Výber chce sprítomniť jedného z najväčších francúzskych básnikov, významného predstaviteľa svetovej moderny. V roku 1857 Baudelaira hnali za jeho básne pred súd, lebo verejnosť poburovali, no v súčasnosti žasneme nad nespornou umeleckou hodnotou jeho poézie. Dnes si aj jeho Zdochlinu už vieme prečítať ako nádhernú ľúbostnú báseň, ktorá vôbec nie je taká cynická, ako vyzerá na prvý pohľad. Slávna zbierka veršov, vydaná po prvýkrát v roku 1857 vzbudila v čase svojho vzniku nesmierne pohoršenie meštiackej spoločnosti. V básňach je úplne obnažené srdce človeka, rozdeleného medzi hrôzou pre životom a extázou z jeho krásy, človeka, ktorý je nepriateľom každej všednosti, so záľubou vo výstrednej obraznosti.

Mladučká krásavica Camille má väčší záujem o zábavu a pôžitky ako o rodinu, a tak opantaná vášnivou láskou k príťažlivému šľachticovi opustí manžela i maličkú dcérku Sabrinu, aby sa na dlhé roky stratila z ich života. Po dlhých rokoch samoty sa zoznámí s francúzskym pestovateľom vína a neočakávane sa zrodí nová láska, ktorá jej vari pomôže prekonať všetky príkoria, čo jej osud ešte chystá. Len nádherný dom so sklenou kupolou, postavený Jeremiahom z lásky ku Camille, stojí nezmenený ako mlčiaci svedok dramatických životných zvratov thurstonovskej rodiny.

Není to jen výběr veršů autora Les Fleurs du Mal v překladech celé plejády našich nejlepších básníků - je to doslova portrét básníka a jeho doby. Janu Tomešovi se podařilo sestavit z Baudelairových veršů, dobových dokumentů, grafik, fotografií a vyjádření přátel a kritiků vynikající knihu, která je bezesporu ozdobou každé knihovny.

Pro připomínku mohou padnout jména Víta Obrtela nebo Jana Vladislava a před nimi – jak jinak – Jaroslava Vrchlického. Jejich domovem je Francie. Antologie Plameny v zrcadle sleduje jejich proměny od Baudelaira přes Rimbauda, Mallarméa a Prousta až k Jacobovi a Reverdymu. Mají být „klenotem“ a „líbezným šerosvitem života“, zároveň však dovedou s radioaktivní intenzitou vyjadřovat vnitřní či vnější životní zážitek či zachytit výmluvný střípek krvavě vážné životní epizody. V literatuře reprezentují v čiré podobě řád a tvar.

Baudelairův listář čítající na sedmnáct set dopisů není jen sbírkou jedinečných dokumentů o básníkově životě, díle a době. Je to také jakýsi první náčrt autobiografie, při jejímž psaní se básník Květů zla chtěl opírat, jak píše v jednom dopise matce, právě o svou korespondenci. Kniha, kterou už básník nestačil napsat, se měla jmenovat Mé srdce obnažené – nebo volněji a možná věrněji Mé srdce, tak jak je – a měla být nejen historií jeho fixní ideje věnovat se stůj co stůj poezii, umění tak jak mu rozuměl on – a jak mu v mnohém rozumíme dnes i my.

Baudelairovo básnické dílo mělo velký vliv na moderní, hlavně symbolistickou poezii. Jeho nejvýznačnější sbírky jsou Květy zla a Malé básně v próze. Předkládaný výběr básní uspořádal překladatel Gustav Francl a nese název po jedné z nejpůsobivějších básní.

Charles Baudelaire napsal tuto sbírku sevřenou, komorní formou, v níž se často objevuje sonetové schéma. Překladatel a editor Jan Marius Tomeš se snažil, aby tento rozsahem nevelký výbor z autorova stěžejního díla obsahoval na jedné straně především ty verše, které se vyznačují vztahem k hudebnosti či symbolistickému proudu. Na straně druhé se zde objevují i strofy, v nichž lze nalézt znamení rozkladu, svědectví o autorově osudové lásce nebo vzpomínky na jeho indickou cestu. Hořkost a krutost života se však přesto stává stěžejním námětem v Baudelairových verších: srdce člověka, které se zmítá v hluboké rozpolcenosti uprostřed hrůz lidské existence, je náhle schopno proniknout do divokých a nespoutaných extází. S nebývalou intenzitou ožívá v Baudelairově pojetí svět plný stínů, takže i v lyrických reflexích lze vycítit ozvěny hlubokého zoufalství, děsivých snů či rezignace. I z tohoto důvodu je tato sbírka považována za svrchovanou uměleckou výpověď, která má trvalou platnost a hodnotu. Dvojjazyčné vydání výboru básní Charlese Baudelaira v překladu Jana Mariuse Tomeše doplněné málo známými pastely Bohuslava Reynka. Vydání básní v překladu Jana M. Tomeše vychází poprvé.

Slavný a pro nejmladší české básníky po první světové válce objevitelský význam mající překlad plejády francouzských básníků od Ch. Baudelaira přes generaci „prokletých" až k vrcholům symbolismu. Longtemps, la critique d'art fut considérée, dans l'œuvre de Baudelaire, comme d'importance secondaire.
