    Diodoros Sicílsky bol grécky historik, ktorý vytvoril monumentálne univerzálne dejiny nazvané „Historická knižnica“. Vo svojom diele zhromaždil informácie z mnohých zdrojov, čím uznal, že ide o kompiláciu. Jeho práca je cenná pre geografický opis kultúr starovekého Egypta, Mezopotámie, Indie, Scythie, Arábie, severnej Afriky, Grécka a Európy. Zachoval sa aj jeho podrobný, hoci drsný opis práce v baniach v Núbii, ktorý zdôrazňuje využitie otrockej práce v hrozných podmienkach.

Doch es gelingt Diodorosin seiner Historischen Bibliothek, eine zwar gelegentlich lückenhafte - wie soll es angesichts des ungeheuren Anspruchs auch anders sein? -, aber umfassende und vielfach interessante, geschichtsphilosophisch inspirierte Deutung der antiken Welt und der großen historischen Prozesse des Altertums. Ein zusätzlicher Wert des Werkes liegt darin, dass es Auszüge sonst verlorener Werke bewahrt, darunter ethnographische Angaben aus Poseidonios und historiographische Passagen aus Timaios und anderen Historikern.
