This volume explores recent research concerning the biology of the placenta, as well as clinical applications. It focuses on the immunobiology, ultrastructural cell biology, metabolism and biofunctional development of the placental circulating unit. The selected presentations, organized into five sections, cover such topics as placental blood flow, placental cells and cell transport mechanisms, peptide hormones, chorionic villus sampling and placental morphology.
