This thesis considers the influence of electro-magnetic and magnetic fields on the kinematics and dynamics of small scale inhomogeneities, like bubbles, immersed in a carrier liquid. Approaching the modelling of such kind of mixtures, it seems to be impractical to describe the governing processes on the scale of individual inhomogenities in every detail. The aim of part I is to provide an introduction to finite volume averaging for the purpose of application to balance equations of microscopic nature. The aim of part II is to include full electro-magnetic theory, based on the local Maxwell equations, into the description of two-phase systems. The aim of part III is to evaluate the macroscopic equations governing the unsteady and inhomogeneous flow of a mixture of inhomogeneities (like gas bubbles) dispersed in a slightly viscous and, microscopically, incompressible and irrotational carrier medium (like a liquids) in the MHD approximation. The aim of part IV is to investigate the structure of one-dimensional MHD wave propagation in electrically conducting and weakly dispersive mixtures of bubbles in liquid.
