Viac o knihe

Plants form mutualistic associations with various micro-organisms in the rhizosphere, notably through mycorrhizal symbiosis with fungi. In this relationship, fungi provide mineral nutrients and other services to plants, while receiving photosynthates in return. Mycorrhizal associations are prevalent in nearly all ecosystems, with around 80% of land plants engaging with these beneficial soil fungi. Biologists, ecologists, and mycologists increasingly recognize the importance of these associations for understanding plant ecology and evolution. Recent advancements in mycorrhizal ecology have prompted a comprehensive summary of findings, particularly focusing on the ecological functions of these symbioses. The Volume is organized into six sections. The first introduces mycorrhizal symbiosis and highlights progress in understanding its ecological role. The second examines the eco-physiology of mycorrhizal plants and the impact of global changes on the symbiosis. The third section explores how mycorrhizal fungi affect biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, as well as the factors shaping the diversity and structure of mycorrhizal communities. The fourth section emphasizes the multi-trophic nature of the mycorrhizal symbiosis.
