This book serves as an introductory resource for undergraduate students seeking to understand mine wastes produced in the mineral industry. Despite the significance of this sector in providing resources, wealth, and jobs, there has been a lack of accessible textbooks addressing the science of mine wastes. The growing relevance of topics such as mine site pollution and rehabilitation in academia and industry highlights the need for educational materials tailored to undergraduates. Traditionally, earth science courses have focused on classical subjects like palaeontology and mineralogy; however, there is an increasing necessity for curricula to encompass land and water degradation and rehabilitation issues. These topics are gaining importance in society, with more earth science students pursuing careers in related fields. Mine site rehabilitation and mine waste science are emerging disciplines that require attention.
