The proceedings of the 4th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing and Applications (ISPA 2006) held in Sorrento, Italy, from December 4–6, 2006, showcase the growing significance of parallel computing in computer science. This conference has established itself as a premier platform for presenting innovative research across various facets of parallel and distributed computing. The proceedings feature a collection of high-quality technical papers and keynote speeches, covering diverse topics such as architectures, languages, algorithms, software, networking, and applications. This year, a record total of 277 manuscripts were submitted for consideration, resulting in an acceptance rate of 28%, with only 79 regular papers selected for the program. Additionally, 10 workshops enriched the conference experience. The submission and review process involved assigning each paper to at least three Program Committee members, who prepared reviews or sought external evaluations. In cases of conflicting reviews, the Program Chairs and Vice-Chairs intervened. Ultimately, after thorough discussions and evaluations, the Program Chairs made the final decisions on paper acceptance. Each committee member reviewed approximately 7–12 papers, reflecting the rigorous selection process.
