Each "Crash Course" book contains hundreds of photos and illustrations, most of them in color. This volume, with approximately 240 illustrations, is a historical survey of architectural achievements throughout history. It encompasses the pyramids and temples of ancient Egypt, Greek temples, the Roman development of the arch, Gothic cathedrals, the Italian Renaissance palazzo, Vertical Gothic masterpieces in England, buildings of the great neo-classical architects including Christopher Wren, the Greek Revival in American design, English classicism and its impact on today's postmodern architecture, and twentieth-century innovators including Louis Sullivan, Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, and others.
