Raimund Faltz

Viac o knihe

This monograph examines the medallist and wax embosser Raimund Faltz (1659–1703), who developed his craft in prominent European courts. After training in Stockholm near Charles XI's residence and honing his skills in Paris under Louis XIV, Faltz perfected his art in Berlin, the new Prussian capital. The author assesses the technical and artistic quality of Faltz's miniature reliefs and their importance in contemporary medal art. The collection includes 150 wax models, casts, medallions, and minting tools, making it a vital resource on Faltz. The occasion of the 300th anniversary of the artist's death prompted the comprehensive compilation of his works, primarily housed in the Berlin Münzkabinett. Faltz, who served as the medallist for three kings, created enduring monuments in gold and silver, particularly honoring Friedrich III/I, the last Elector of Brandenburg and the first King in Prussia since 1701. The author highlights the significance of Faltz's small reliefs within the context of the artistic environment of the Brandenburg-Prussian court, providing an essential foundation for understanding his contributions to medal art.
