Viac o knihe
The chief aim of Bernstein to Brandt is to present English-speaking students with a view, based on the latest research, of German social democracy. The focus is principally on Imperial Germany, the First World War and the 1918-19 Revolution, and in particular the Weimar Republic, but other periods are not neglected and the book offers a history of German social democracy from the birth of the movement until the present day. 'Social democracy' is interpreted widely to embrace not only the political party - the SPD - but also related social-historical topics (for instance, the trade unions, the culture and the 'view from below'). The team of contributors is a distinguished one, comprising West German, British, Australian, and North American specialists: all but two of the essays are original and have been written expressly for this collection; none has appeared previously in English. The cover illustration shows Trade Union officials distributing benefit cards to miners during a lock-out by Mansfield AG in 1930.
