This book summarizes and visualizes all relevant data and features for identifying sharks of the genus Carcharhinus (BLAINVILLE 1816). For those inexperienced in shark identification, distinguishing between introduced species can be challenging. An identification key is provided to help differentiate the species. Each species is detailed with an extensive list of characteristics, including colored figures illustrating lateral and ventral views, nostrils, teeth, and sometimes juveniles and unique traits. The book also presents data on body size, appearance, color, tooth formula, vertebrae count, internal and external features, geographical distribution, preferred habitats, and dietary habits. Additionally, it includes biological and reproductive information such as litter size, birth size, sexual maturity, behavior, and migrational patterns. While previous works on Carcharhinus covered up to 30 species, this guide describes 33 species, with special notes on six. It discusses a potential subdivision of the spinner shark, C. brevipinna, into Atlantic and Pacific subspecies, introduces the lesser-known C. acarenatus, and addresses the rare C. leiodon, previously recorded only once. Moreover, it includes the disputed species Carcharhinus sp. A, noted by COMPAGNO et al. (2005) as a new genus member.
