Anna Jermolaewa is an artist primarily focused on photography and video, showcasing her work in international exhibitions for years. Her pieces, characterized by their precision despite simple technical means, explore significant societal issues such as migration, integration, and globalization. Through her often serial photographs and videos, as well as arranged installations, she creates a critical study of society, examining the dependencies and power dynamics between individuals and society, as well as the manipulations of the consumer and media industries. Autobiographical elements frequently appear in her work, reflecting on her escape from the former USSR in 1989 and her subsequent travels. Themes of memory, loss, and trauma are central to her artistic exploration. This extensive monograph documents a wide array of Jermolaewa's key works from the past decade and features texts from various authors discussing her artistic practice from different perspectives. Born in Leningrad in 1970, she has been living and working in Vienna since 1989.
