The present book offers a systematic analysis of the alleged “EU communication deficit” and illustrates how the complex multilevel reality of the European political setting exerts a direct impact on the day-to-day communication practice of EU spokespersons and their interactions with journalists. By drawing on the insights of key communicators in the European Commission, the author develops a fresh and innovative concept of a two-fold European public sphere and connects it to the practical problems of communicating EU policies to the press and electronic media.
