In recent decades, the understanding of space and place as social constructs has gained significant attention, emphasizing cultural, social, and political practices. This perspective shifts from viewing space as a fixed container to recognizing it as intrinsically linked to social practices and cultural meanings. The study of spatial practices examines human actions in various spaces, the agency involved in producing space, and how space can inspire human action. By focusing on how individuals manipulate and subvert space, creating multiple overlapping spatialities, the emphasis moves from semiotic correlations in cultural expressions to the events, practices, and material embodiments of culture. This collection of essays approaches the study of space and place from a historically inclusive perspective, offering insights into historical shifts in the construction and perception of space, as well as developments in literary, social, and architectural contexts. It aims to compile case studies that provide concrete historical evidence of spatial practices as reflected in literature, art, and sources related to the social and political life across premodern, early modern, and modern eras.
