A sustainable placement of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in inclusive, well-paid jobs necessitates qualified vocational training. Historically, it was believed that only a few individuals with autism could successfully undergo systematic vocational preparation, resulting in only about 5% securing regular employment. However, recent evidence over the past decade shows that many adolescents with ASD, particularly those with Asperger's Syndrome and high-functioning autism, can be effectively trained and find jobs in the regular labor market. Their ability to learn and perform efficiently is now recognized. Successful qualification measures require training conditions tailored to the individuals, with trainers adapting to their cognitive styles. Many young people also need support in job searching and may benefit from job coaching during their vocational adjustment. This publication outlines essential elements for effective training and market placement, emphasizing the need for companies to recognize the capabilities of individuals with autism. Key components include appropriate work conditions, social skills training, accommodations during assessments, on-the-job support, and assistance with daily living and job search. The goal is to increase the employment rate of individuals with ASD to 15-20% and foster inclusive, satisfying job opportunities. The publication presents findings from three research projects
