Sino-German communication interferences in intercultural teamwork

Research on multinational teamwork involving diverse nationalities has primarily focused on communication facilitators and barriers, revealing that these can vary based on cultural contexts. The field of intercultural management has evolved to address the complexities managers face, particularly with China's growing role in globalization strategies, which is increasingly relevant for Germany due to Chinese investments. This shift has prompted a reevaluation of the study of various nationalities, highlighting a demand for understanding Sino-German teamwork. Despite this, research specifically on Sino-German collaboration remains limited, and much existing work has prioritized outcomes over team members' experiences, often employing quantitative methods that reflect a positivist bias. This study challenges that bias, recognizing the non-linear and interrelated nature of factors affecting communication. It argues that the experiences of Chinese and German team members have been marginalized in intercultural management research, necessitating a new approach informed by a postmodern theoretical framework. This perspective values multiplicity and diversity, emphasizes local narratives, and acknowledges the role of language in shaping perceptions of truth.
