This volume was created in honor of Regine Allgayer-Kaufmann, a professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Vienna, celebrating her 65th birthday and retirement. Regine's scholarly interests have long revolved around the transgression of structures and conventions, whether through subversive gender performances, harmonic deviations in Música Popular Brasileira, or interdisciplinary explorations. The collection features contributions from colleagues and friends that reflect her research ambitions. The first section focuses on musical analysis, a consistent theme throughout Regine's career. The second part addresses gender issues in music, particularly significant in her recent work. Additionally, some authors present findings related to Regine's regional research interests, primarily Brazil and, in recent years, East Africa, especially Malawi and Mozambique. Other contributions explore the music history of Vienna and Austria, where Regine has spent much of her career. The articles are written in various languages—English, German, and Portuguese—reflecting Regine's linguistic repertoire.
