The new series Lincom Studies in Language Acquisition and Bilingualism, edited by Hristo Kyuchukov, aims to present fresh research in bilingualism and language acquisition, focusing on underexplored languages. It encourages scholars from Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and ex-Yugoslavian countries to contribute their findings. The inaugural volume centers on the acquisition of Slavic languages and features research from both emerging and established scholars from the USA, Bulgaria, Russia, and Ukraine. Topics include the acquisition of grammatical categories in Russian and Ukrainian, as well as Bulgarian and Slovak as second languages, and the acquisition of English. The contributions are original and reflect the latest developments in developmental psycholinguistics. The contents include an introduction by Hristo Kyuchukov, general issues of language acquisition discussed by Jill de Villiers and Teresa Kenyon, and specific studies on the vocal activity of children, listening and reasoning production in preschoolers, and meta-language displays in Ukrainian children. Additional reports address the acquisition of Bulgarian and Slovak as second languages for Roma children and literacy readiness in teaching English.
