Geographic mental maps and foreign policy change

Re-Mapping the Carter Doctrine

Viac o knihe

In recent years, geographic mental maps have gained renewed attention in scholarly research within International Relations (IR), especially in Foreign Policy Analysis (FPA). This work contributes to the mental map research agenda by expanding both theoretical and empirical applications of geographic mental maps as analytical tools in international politics. It offers a framework for understanding the role of mental maps in foreign policy decision-making and the mechanisms behind their transformation. Drawing on insights from various fields, including social psychology and organizational theory, the book tests its theoretical propositions by examining how the Carter Administration's evolving mental maps influenced its Middle East policy, particularly in the development of the Carter Doctrine. Aimed at academics, students, and professionals in Human Geography, IR, Political Geography, and FPA, the book also appeals to a broader audience interested in Political Science. Although academic in nature, its qualitative and holistic approach makes it accessible to anyone curious about geography and international politics. Luis da Vinha, PhD, serves as Assistant Professor of Geography & Political Science at Valley City State University.
