The last comprehensive survey of rent-seeking literature was over a decade ago, and since then, extensive new research has emerged across various journals and topics. As a result, few researchers are familiar with the full scope of contemporary studies, and libraries often lack access to this breadth of information. This two-volume collection offers a thorough overview of 40 years of rent-seeking research, featuring foundational papers, many of which have been out of print for two decades. It includes recent game-theoretic analyses of rent-seeking contests and applies these concepts to areas such as economic regulation, international trade policy, economic history, political competition, and other social phenomena. This new collection is more than twice the size of any previous one, updating and expanding earlier surveys. Volume I focuses on previously published research regarding the theory of rent-seeking contests, a significant aspect of contemporary game theory. Volume II presents research that utilizes this theory to analyze a wide range of public policy and social science topics. The editors dedicated over a year to curating the selections, and despite the extensive content, many additional papers could have been included.
