Scholars are increasingly exploring aspects of Polybius' history that have been overlooked, treating it not only as a source of information on Roman expansion in the Mediterranean but also as a complex narrative with distinct interests. While most studies of Polybius' reception focus on modern interpretations, particularly regarding mixed constitutions, there is a significant need to investigate his influence on ancient Greek and Roman authors. This volume compiles contributions that pose new questions or reframe existing ones, reflecting the current scholarly interest in Polybius and the diverse hermeneutical issues his work raises. Topics covered include Polybius' historical ideas, composition methods, views on the historian's role, cultural representation, intertextual relationships, and his reception and influence. Collectively, these papers aim to enhance understanding of the unique qualities of Polybius' history and provide fresh insights into interpreting this significant work.
