Searching for Dark Matter with the ATLAS Detector

The thesis explores the search for Dark Matter at the LHC, focusing on mono-jet plus missing transverse momentum using the full 2012 ATLAS dataset. It innovatively allows for a variable number of jets, enhancing sensitivity to new signals by requiring balance between the most energetic jet and missing momentum. Additionally, it critically examines the validity of effective field theories (EFTs) in collider searches, offering a comprehensive framework for comparing various Dark Matter detection methods on a solid foundation.
