Focusing on French cinema from 1985 to 2015, this book examines the interplay between composed scores and existing music to highlight significant musical moments. It introduces the idea of "third space music" in heritage films, which shapes narrative space and reflects the complexities of strong female characters through leitmotifs. Analyzing piano performances in fiction films, it connects musical expression to gender roles. Using a database of 300 films, it theorizes the "crystal-song," drawing on concepts from Barthes and Deleuze to explore music's role in intertwining time and memory.
