Artists have historically ventured beyond studios to showcase their sculptural works in open-air spaces, where sculptures can fully express their three-dimensional quality. However, public spaces often limit the development of sculpture, leading to the creation of sculpture parks worldwide. In 2000, Erich Engelbrecht sought a location in France to display his large sculptures and found an ideal open, meadow-like area with a château nestled in the forest. This picturesque setting, framed by trees, was a rare opportunity for an artist. Engelbrecht's monumental sculptures, which dominate the landscape, have secured his place in modern sculpture history. His unique approach of translating images into solid forms that occupy entire landscapes balances representational and abstract qualities, inviting poetic interpretations. At the Château des Fougis park, 29 of his artworks interact harmoniously, encouraging visitors to reflect and enjoy their surroundings. This garden of poetic artworks offers a distinctive experience reminiscent of the Italian Mannerist gardens. Gottfried Knapp, an editor at Süddeutsche Zeitung, has published extensively on art and architecture, while João J. de Abreu Vares, an architect, has assisted in the park's installation. Philippe Hervouet, an art historian and photographer, contributes to preserving cultural heritage and teaches photography at Université Jean Monnet.
