This collection presents contributions from a colloquium held at the University of Mainz in 2016, exploring various aspects of ancient burial practices and funerary contexts across Greece. Topics include burial types in Attica from the 11th to 6th centuries B.C., the burial topography of Archaic Athens, and archaeological adventures in the 5th century B.C. Aegean, particularly focusing on excavations at Skyros and Delos. The volume also examines ancient cemeteries in Euboea, the Classical cemetery of Xobourgo at Tenos, and significant findings from Tenea's past. Additional studies delve into funerary contexts in Ambracia, local identities and practices at Delphi, and the organization of Macedonian cemeteries from the Archaic to Hellenistic periods. The shifting practices and emerging identities in Macedonian necropoleis are analyzed, alongside insights into ceramic grave offerings and the heroic past of the Macedonian elite. Other contributions address children's graves in Abdera and Phaleron, burial and commemoration of children in Hellenistic Greece, and the role of theater elements in classical graves. The volume concludes with discussions on tombs in hippodromes and stadiums, beliefs about the underworld, and the significance of gold lamellae in the context of a mysterious underworld.
