Christoph Knecht, born in 1983 in Karlsruhe and currently based in Düsseldorf, creates a diverse body of work that includes painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. His motifs reflect a departure from traditional meta-narratives, embodying the perspective of a younger generation of digital natives. Knecht's art explores cultural belonging and engages with symbolism, showcasing a desire to understand and reinterpret signs. In his series Plant of Opportunities, he presents amorphous plant figures, enhanced by an anthropomorphic plant boy holding a smartphone, merging dreamlike imagery with contemporary elements. His blue-painted, glazed tile works mimic the Portuguese Azulejos, forming a panoramic wall that features globally recognized symbols like metal suitcases, ancient constellations, and YouTube icons. The Yad Chen series intertwines Israeli beauty products with Islamic quotes, rendered in a Cubist style using Arabic characters. Knecht also incorporates elements of his own cultural background, as seen in his bronze kebab sculpture and etchings of deer on lace doilies, contributing to a uniquely German narrative. This book offers a comprehensive overview of Knecht's work over the past decade, with texts by Jens Asthoff, Ory Dessau, and Nicole Fritz.
