In a world plagued by wars, hunger, inequality, social injustice, and racial discrimination, wealthy societies like America, the EU, Australia, and parts of Asia have erected immigration barriers to keep migrants and refugees at bay. Despite these obstacles, migrants continue to brave treacherous journeys, seeking a better life. Recently, Germany has welcomed many fleeing violence and persecution, yet this has sparked a rise in resentment, xenophobia, and bigotry, partly fueled by the rise of a divisive political figure in the U.S. who promotes hate and prejudice against those who differ from him. Many migrants endure harrowing experiences, facing dangers in the Sahara Desert, where some are raped, exploited, or sold into forced labor. Those who attempt to cross the Mediterranean often perish in overcrowded, unseaworthy boats. This global crisis raises urgent questions: What is the end game? Can the world unite to address these pressing issues and confront the forces that perpetuate them? Should we cling to the hope symbolized by the Fall of the Berlin Wall, or have we, in these turbulent times, witnessed the reemergence of barriers?
