Reproductive and developmental toxicity of metals

Viac o knihe

The Permanent Commission and International Association on Occupational Health (PCIAOH) established a Subcommittee on the Toxicology of Metals in 1969, chaired by Lars Friberg. This committee, later named the Scientific Committee on the Toxicology of Metals, organized several meetings that resulted in significant publications in metal toxicology. The first meeting in Slanchev Bryag, Bulgaria, in 1971 was followed by a 1972 meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which produced two reports discussing metal metabolism, particularly absorption, excretion, and biological half-times. The committee addressed the effects and dose-response relationships of toxic metals at a 1974 meeting in Tokyo, emphasizing the concept of a "threshold dose" for adverse effects. This philosophy was also central to the Buenos Aires conference. In 1980, a conference in Atlanta expanded the discussion to include metals' roles in carcinogenesis, marking the committee's first consideration of non-threshold relationships. Additionally, a workshop on metal interactions was held in Stockholm in 1977. The committee's work has significantly advanced the understanding of metal toxicology and its implications for health.
