It explores the complex meanings of these garments, particularly in nineteenth-century Fiji, where women wore beautifully crafted fibre skirts (liku) throughout their lives. These skirts were intricately linked to personal milestones such as puberty, marriage, and maternity, serving various social functions and reflecting a rich tradition of body adornment and modification.
