Ethnic Identity, Social Mobility and the Role of Soulmates

Focusing on the experiences of higher-educated adult children from lower-class Turkish and Moroccan immigrant backgrounds in the Netherlands, this open access book examines their identification processes as social climbers. Through survey data and interviews, it reveals the contextual and temporal nature of their ethnic identities, highlighting the complex effects of ethnicity on social mobility. The findings advocate for a nuanced understanding of ethnic terms and contribute to discussions on integration and diversity, appealing to academics and policymakers alike.
